Growing Up

I've got three sisters, five aunties, and my mom. It must have had an influence on me growing up.

My mom was very strict when I was growing up. I could not talk to boys until I was 18. I had to study and work hard.

I had two passions growing up - one was music, one was technology. I tried to play in a band for a while, but I was never talented enough to make it. And I started companies. One day came along and I decided to combine the two - and there was Spotify.

This is going to sound really sad, but I didn't really have any heartthrobs when I was growing up. I was a bit of a geek.

Growing up in politics I know that women decide all elections because we do all the work.

Growing up, I had a very vivid imagination and Leonardo was like my best imaginary friend that I spoke to. When things were tough, or I was scared in an unsafe environment, I always imagined that the Ninja Turtles would come to the rescue.

It's so funny, because when I was growing up in a small town in New Hampshire, I was obsessed with Leonardo DiCaprio - from the 'Growing Pains'/'What's Eating Gilbert Grape' era, because he was superhot - and I carried a laminated photo of him in my wallet and said he was my boyfriend. But no one believed me.

Being funny wasn't a career choice growing up, it was my way out of situations; a way to survive another day.

The most important thing that I learned in growing up is that forgiveness is something that, when you do it, you free yourself to move on.

When I was growing up, I was so fascinated by Mel Blanc and all of the different voices that he did for 'Looney Tunes' and watching Robin Williams record voice-over for the genie in 'Aladdin.' It always seemed to be a major honor - something you have to earn. Like people trust you when they want to have you there without seeing you.

I think growing up in a big family taught me a lot of problem solving and how to share and compromise, and that's been helpful in my marriage.

I've always wanted to design a home collection line because growing up, I was obsessed with reorganizing my room.

I never was interested in being part of the fashion world - I just wanted to design shoes. I didn't even know 'Vogue' existed when I was growing up. 'Vogue,' what is that?'

Growing up in New York City, I was always encouraged to question authority, and I think I confused patriotism with jingoism.

I loved scary movies growing up.

I loved Superman growing up. I saw a couple of those movies in the theater, and I watched 'Superman II' 8000 times.

Growing up I didn't watch movies.

I had a really bad temper, when I was growing up. Sport helped me channel that temper into more positive acts.
