As a traveler, I've often found that the more a culture differs from my own, the more I am struck by its essential humanity.

Love people, not places. Places don't miss you when you're gone.

I have been so very, very fortunate in my life. I've met or been in contact with several of my childhood heroes. I've interacted with people all over this planet, and even though I couldn't possibly hope to remember all their names, I remember a photograph, a poem, a sound, a joke, kind words of encouragement. All is not lost.

Helping people and putting smiles on their faces is a great, great thing. God only knows why more people don't do it more often.

So at the end of the day, here was what Mike was able to believe in: people.It was people and their kindness the made him feel blessed. It was people who were the heroes, and people who were generous, and people who comforted one another.

Some people don__ want to hurt your feelings.

Some people are crazy in love. They are so captivated to where they've lost themselves. Do not be lured in so deep that you lose the essence of who you truly are.

Even in times of today, when one does not feel the need to go out of one's way for someone else, there are people who would. There are people who would be good to someone, share a smile with someone, care for someone and actually help someone, despite knowing that their act of kindness would be reciprocated with looks and feelings of suspicion. These are the people so sure of their selfless motives, their act of kindness that in their hearts they know, eventually, around some corner, some day their smile would be returned with a smile and their kindness will earn them kindness and acceptance in return.

They truly embodied goodness and generosity _ like angels sent to save me in my hour of greatest need. Mohammed had risked everything to keep a promise to my father. He and his family saved not only my life, but also my faith in others.

We must encourage, support and comfort one another.

Before you step out into the world today, remember that you will encounter people whose struggles you do not know. Remember the way a pair of eyes light up when greeted with kindness.

We should never let another person get under our skin to the point that we feel hate for them

Being a leader is not about finding ways to get others to serve you, but knowing how to serve your followers.

Treat people like people. Beware of pity and patronization because in them, you can't see when you're unashamedly looking down on someone.

Perhaps a seemingly dull, boring person is not a person who lacks personality, but rather a person with so much personality most other things bore them.

People, generally, are equally insecure. They just show it (or hide it) differently.

People walk in the door because they need you to take care of them -- to feed them or fix them.
