I don't really care how or why Obama got to the right place on gay marriage. I'm just glad he got there.

Anyone who watched George W. and Karl Rove while the former was governor of Texas will recognize a familiar pattern. That creeps people out, especially Christians. So, I don't think gay marriage is a conservative issue. I think it's a radical issue.

Over the years, I would go to my agents, my manager, and I would say, 'Hey, there's this amazing true story about this gay English mathematician who committed suicide in the 1950s.' And they would be like, 'Please don't ever write that script. That is an unmakeable film.'

By in large in this country the issue of gay rights and equality should be past the point of debate. Really, there should be no debate anymore.
