I__e come to a frightening conclusion that I am the decisive element in the classroom. It__ my personal approach that creates the climate. It__ my daily mood that makes the weather. As a teacher, I possess a tremendous power to make a child__ life miserable or joyous. I can be a tool of torture or an instrument of inspiration. I can humiliate or heal. In all situations, it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated and a child humanized or dehumanized.

If you look at your class as anything less than life or death, you do not deserve to be a teacher. If you walk into the classroom ten minutes late, week after week, you need to resign. You wouldn't come in late on your job all the time, but I venture to guess that some of you do it on Sunday.
