You can't force creatives into a box. If you try, they'll no longer be creative. And no one will want your box.

Here is to all the brilliant minds that love deeply, for they write the stories that make us dream of true love. Here is to all the visionaries that create a miracle when others give up hope. Here is to all the artists, musicians, actors, singers, songwriters, dancers, screenwriters, philosophers, inventors and poetic hearts that create a perspective of heaven we can experience in this lifetime. But most of all, here is to the wild souls that the world calls broken, insane, abnormal, weird or different because they are the ones that renew our faith, by what they overcome and create, in a world that needs a sign that God doesn__ forget the least of us.

Bringing a novel to light - revealing the form and cadence, shadows and demeanor of a protagonist constructed from thin air - linking scenes and synchronicity across translucent time - holding up a glass brimming with chilled, never-tasted liquid, then sipping from it with intoxicated focus - allowing lovers to make a perilous mess of things, fall apart and nakedly come back together again - looking through conjured windows deep into someone else__ snow-bound solitude, feeling utterly alone yet being all-connected: this is not writing. It__ world-creating.It__ raw, exposed dreaming. It__ humbling. At first too personal and intimate to share, it evolves like a child into a life of its own until I have no say in what comes next. It__ what I wake at 4am to say Yes to, the spinning possibility of a new story relentlessly commanding me to write it down so it can whirl in your experience.

As artists, we are constantly becoming.

Creativity is just about connecting things. A whole lot of nonsense put together, and diluted with a creative passion can eventually make sense. Keep thinking. Exploring. Keep trying out new ways and methods of doing things and just when you least expect, you may stumble on that next great world-changing idea that will make all the difference.

Whether we consider hip-hop as an evolved manifestation of the Harlem Renaissance or something completely new under the sun, it clearly has moved beyond the stage of just entertaining lives to that of informing and empowering lives.

Art is nothing more than creating an emotion in your own form.

What is the beauty of a thing if others do not take pleasure in it.

Create. Not for the money. Not for the fame. Not for the recognition. But for the pure joy of creating something and sharing it.

That's the value of the artist... Even when they aren't aware, they're dreaming our dreams for us.
